3 Steps to a better Vacation

Use a travel agent. Capitol Hill Travel has instant computer access to the fare and schedules of hundreds of airlines, car rental firms, hotels, theatre packages, and a myriad of other travel related services. We can provide detailed information from each supplier. Calling the supplier directly will only give you information from that supplier. They won't tell you what the competition offers. i.e.: We can tell you that right next to the $300 a night Hyatt is a similar hotel that is less expensive.

Tracy Michaels, past president of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, explains why it is to your advantage to use a travel agent in her article:   In Praise of Travel Agents .

State your priorities up front. If you want to go to San Francisco on the morning of the 7th and return the evening of the 8th, but you'd fly at other times to get the best fare, start by saying "I'm looking for the best fare to San Francisco ideally on the morning of the 7th." The mystery of arranging travel is solved with who, what, when, where, how and why. Knowing the answers to these questions when making reservations saves time, confusion, and money.
Who: Complete legal names of all travelers.
What: Types of activities you want to engage in
When: If everyone is not traveling together, each person is a separate reservation. Know each persons dates and desired time of travel.
Where: This may seem obvious, but many people don't know where they are going. What hotel, or kind of hotel etc.(see questions above).
How: What form of transportation?

Why: Explaining why you want to travel will help your travel agents see the big picture. They can then advise you on how to accomplish your travel plan.

Thoroughly review your itinerary before and immediately after purchase. Ask for written or faxed confirmation at the time of booking (tickets are often delivered much later) - and check it when you get it. Most major travel problems are the result of simple communication errors - and the earlier they're discovered, the easier they're corrected.
